Constructed during the 1800s in the Victorian architectural style with Georgian design features, the property was intended to host foreign dignitaries and visitors of the Mayurbhanj royal family. The property was given the name “palace” upon the princely state’s merger with the Union of India, in honour of the royal family who made the area their permanent home after freedom.

Past Events

During British administration, the Bhanja dynasty, the Kings of Mayurbhanj, played a pivotal role in elevating Odisha. During British administration, it was really one of the most progressive regions in the country. In Cuttack, the Bhanja monarchs founded the state’s first medical institution. Large quantities of cash and land were contributed by them to support the founding of colleges and universities like Ravenshaw College. They were also in charge of trying and eventually convincing the British to grant a railway connection to Odisha.
