Tribes Odisha: Odisha government had launched the scheme ‘Anwesha’ in December 2015 with an aim to provide free education including all the facilities to ST and SC students. The impact is loud and clear after 5 years of the launching of the scheme, which is dedicated for the upliftment of tribal students.
The success of the scheme could be related to the news of 25 tribal girls clearing matriculation examination in 2017 that got the attention of all media and as well as the users of social media sites and government officials. The girls belong to Dongria Kondh, particularly vulnerable tribal groups, residing in Rayagada district, had passed out the matriculation examination.
The scheme is currently being implemented in 17 districts viz. Angul, Bargarh, Bolangir, Deogarh, Ganjam, Gajapati Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbanj, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur & Sundergarh. It’s being monitored by Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.
Under the scheme, the ST/SC students will get free education, free hostels, free counselor, scholarship and the state government will bear all the expenses.
