Situated deep within the green paradises of Gajapati district, Gandahati Waterfall is one of Odisha’s most captivating natural wonders. Situated at a distance of around 30 kilometers from Paralakhemundi and 153 kilometers from Berhampur, this falling beauty invites visitors with its pure beauty and serene ambiance. The instant one reaches the destination, the thick forests, the soft swaying of leaves, and the melodious sound of the waterfall unfold an aura of tranquility that is difficult to erase.

The waterfall is not only a feast for the eyes but also a place that carries historical and ecological significance. Once upon a time, elephants roamed freely in this region, giving Gandahati a special place in the memories of the local people. Today, though the elephants are no longer seen, the area remains alive with a rich variety of flora and fauna. Forest is ruled by sal, piasal, mahula, haldu, kendu, and arjun trees, and its fauna varies from leopards, sambar, and barking deer to wild boars, porcupines, and vibrant birds like peacocks, golden orioles, and cuckoos. The 20-meter waterfall cascades gently between hills and gives it a scenic beauty that remains unspoiled and ageless.

Spread over an ecological zone of 1212.40 hectares, Gandahati has also been transformed into a favorite picnic and recreation area for tourists and locals alike. Families pool in here for nature walks, photo shoots, and even a refreshing splash in the cool water. The natural pools created by the waterfall are inviting and rejuvenating too, and the place has become an ideal retreat for those looking for peace and respite from the confines of everyday life.

Accessing Gandahati is easy as it is well linked by roadways. One can come here by bus or private car from Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, or even Visakhapatnam. If one opt for the train route, Paralakhemundi railway station is just 29 kilometers away, from where one can either hire a taxi or bus to reach the falls.

Apart from its visual appeal, Gandahati comes with the cultural heritage of the region. Having previously belonged to the Paralakhemundi Zamindari, it is frequently recalled as one of its muthas, identifying the location with nature as well as the land’s heritage. To anyone venturing to view the secret jewels of Odisha, Gandahati Waterfall is a destination that offers more than a natural wonder—it is a combination of beauty, history, and peace. Standing in front of its waterfalls, one can almost sense the balance of nature and life that makes this destination so enchanting.
