Tribes Odisha: Sarojini Tirkey from Sundargarh, has become an inspiration for women (not just tribals) with her strong resolve to excel as a Footballer despite being a mother of a four-year-old kid.
30-year-old Sarojini defies the age to show her power and stamina in the field. The SDC Cup 2020 gave her the right platform as she emerged as one of the top scorers in the tournament while her team won the SDC Cup 2020 Tribal Football Championship (Women).
Sarojini hails from Sarandaposha village in Kuaramunda block of Sundargarh district. She started playing Football at the school level and continued playing for her school in Manipur, Mizoram and Uttarakhand.
She could not progress further due to health related issues, but did not give up. Although she got married in 2010, she resumed playing when her daughter turned 3. Her husband Dilip Barua has been the real support for Sarojini. He encourages her to take up Football while taking care of the kid as well as farming to sustain the family.
Sarojini needs the support from the Government to achieve her dreams.
