Each district of Odisha will have a language lab set up to help advance indigenous literature and culture there. On the occasion of the inauguration of a dictionary in Santali, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik remarked that this would also provide plenty of opportunities for research on tribal languages.

The tribal language and culture institution has released a dictionary in Santali-Odia-English. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported that the CM also dedicated 21 new primary education level textbooks in various tribal languages of Odisha, including Soura, Kui, Kuvi, Gondi, and Munda, at Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the work of the great linguist Chaitanya Prasad Majhi and other Santali linguists, researchers, and the tribal institute in creating the dictionary.

Notably, the SC & ST Department is working to create other elementary school textbooks and dictionaries in 11 different tribal languages in addition to Santali. In the next days, the government plans to launch diploma programs in a variety of tribal languages.
