In a spiritually charged atmosphere, the Odisha Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department and the Jajpur district administration, inaugurated the prayer ceremony of the second Buddhist Guru, Padmasambhava, alongside the International Buddhist Conference.
The ancient hills of Udayagiri came alive with sacred chants and the hypnotic cadence of Buddhist rituals as Odisha renewed its timeless bond with the path of peace and enlightenment.
Spanning six days from January 11 to 16, the event has transformed Jajpur into a vibrant global confluence of Buddhist thought and devotion. More than 1,700 devotees and revered gurus from leading monasteries across India and the world have assembled to pay homage to Guru Padmasambhava, the revered “Lotus-Born” master whose teachings carried Vajrayana Buddhism across Tibet and into East Asia.
The spiritual fervour unfolded with a majestic peace procession, winding its way from the Udayagiri Tourist Reception Centre to the ancient Prayer Temple. Draped in traditional robes, monks walked in serene harmony with international participants, their rhythmic steps echoing a universal message of compassion, unity and peace.
Presiding over the inauguration, Buddhist Guru Wangmo Dixey set a contemplative tone, while Jajpur MP Shri Rabindra Narayan Behera reflected on India’s civilisational ethos, rooted not in conflict but in the teachings of Lord Buddha. He underscored Jajpur’s historic prominence as a cradle of Buddhist culture and the seat of the legendary Pushpagiri University, once a luminous centre of learning that attracted scholars from distant lands.
Beyond rituals and prayers, the conference delves deep into intellectual exploration. Scholars, historians and researchers are engaging in insightful seminars aimed at preserving and promoting the philosophical legacy of Odisha’s famed Diamond Triangle. Guided by Culture Secretary Dr. Bijay Ketan Upadhyaya and Tourism Secretary Shri Balwant Singh, the gathering stands as a powerful affirmation of Odisha’s resolve to reclaim and celebrate its ancient role as a global beacon of Buddhist wisdom.
As chants rise against the silent hills of Udayagiri, the past and present converge, reminding the world that the message of the Lotus-Born master continues to bloom, timeless and transcendent.
